what MAF should I get??

So after debating with myself for few months now regarding a code 34 I decided to get a new MAF sensor since once the car go into a limp mode it runs alot better and wont shut off on me like before.
so Im trying to decide which one I should get and Im leaning towards the BWD cause I like the idea of the board instead of the hot wire
specially after I heard that if you have K&N air filters its not so good for them because of the oil base. I also herd about the micro-tech ones which are the same deal
any suggestions??

Re: what MAF should I get??

I went the stock gutted, Micro-tech with mixed results. Ended up with the BlowerWorks 3" unit with ostrich and new tune. I recommend this unit for a modified engine but doubt it would make much difference on a stock setup.

Re: what MAF should I get??

Im looking for something simple
my engine is not modified..yet. in the future I might do just the TPI mods like runners throttle body injectors ect....
by the way...you know if LT1 throtle body will fit the TPI?
I got someone in my area selling a BBK 58mm one for $250

Re: what MAF should I get??

If you want to keep it simple go stock, put a vacuum gage on the manifold and route it into the interior where you can watch it under full throttle in anything but first gear and see if you have any vacuum at WOT. If you do you can think about increasing the air flow, start with the filter and work back to the intake. Take small steps, (58 MM is too big for a stock motor, stock base and runners won't support it either) but this is my experiance so take it for what it's worth,

I think you right about the throtle body if anything I would have gone with the 52mm....the only reason why I considered 58mm is because $250 is a good deal for that

I run a BWD from Advance Auto ($165) with a K-N type filter right off the MAF, Keep the oil to as little as possible, You won't have any problems, especially if you have the stock air system. Any impurities are to be burned off with the MAF burn off relay also.

Re: what MAF should I get??

I checked advanced auto parts and they dont have the BWD they have the micro-tech
which looks the same its the one with the board in the MAF as well
which one do you have?
I would still prefer to get the one with the board instead of the one with the hot wire just because thats what I have now its the bosch one and I wasnt very happy with it especially since I know the privious owner just put it in before I got the car

Re: what MAF should I get??

You are right, when i look for my '87 it shows the BWD, when i look for an '88 it shows not compatible. I know that the MAF should be the same for '86-'89. After '89 they went to a MAP system. Maybe call and ask a knowledgable assistant. (good luck?)

Re: what MAF should I get??

you were right...i did try using 87 camaro for the search and it did showed BWD MAF, but I think Im gonna go on the microtech anyway just because of the board instead of the wire cause I think the BWD MAF that they are carrying is the one with the hot wire....plus they have good deals now I can get the MAF for $150 with free shipping and also if I have problems with the sensor I can return it in 90 days and get full refound

I've read some say the Microtech MAF with the board inside isn't calibrated correctly.
