LT1 cam in 88 350 TPI
I posted in an earlier thread that my engine had the peanut cam in it and I was looking for a stock or LT1 cam to replace it. Well I'm receiving an LT1 cam to install in my car and after further research found the "LT1 cam digest (the ultimate one)" on this forum. Although this thread addresses the LT1 swap in the 305 I was curious if the timing gear recommendation of part number 12371043 for the set or 14088783 for just the timing chain and the Comp cam valve springs 981-16 would also apply to my 350. The engine is completely stock at this point. I'm also interested in doing nothing with the timing set and springs and just install the cam with all my old parts. Seems like the engine is already set up for this cam anyway since it's not much different than the stock cam profile. Any feedback is appreciated.

Re: LT1 cam in 88 350 TPI
This engine was a dealer warranty replacement take out that a mechanic I bought the engine from had put another cam into. I bought this engine as a short block advertised as a 88 350 Camaro TPI block. I've run it for the last ten years. The mechanic told me he replaced the cam since that was what the warranty replacement was all about. I didn't realize he installed the peanut cam (verified by the part number when I removed it) until I was replacing the intake gaskets and decided to check the cam lobe lift. That is when I discovered the wrong cam was in it. So now I'm just trying to get it back to stock and the LT1 cam seems to be a more abundant cam. I'm just trying to figure out if I need to replace anything. Seems like the minimum will be the timing chain and possibly the gears too.
