A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
So glad ive found you all.
Well, ive finally decided to build a TPI motor.
Pretty much the ONLY thing I have that I know what it is, is the engine.
Its an 89' 305tpi engine from a Firebird (suffix code ATA).
Now the confusing part. I need help identifying all my parts so I can put something together and get the proper computer and harness ordered.
I have this distributor Number 1103679

And I have these TPI's. (there is a good chance one of these setups go with the 89' 305 I just mentioned, but the way I used to buy and sell parts... theres no guarantees.
)

The left Plenum: 10077151
Left throttle body: 17090154
Left intake: 140069, 10066015
Left fuel rail: 17089024
Right intake: 141310, 10066015
Right fuel rail: 17090101
Right plenum: 10108468
Right throttle body: 17089023
One difference ive noticed is the tb on the left has some kind of airfoil added.
Also, on the left intake the EGR has a terminal and one wire coming from its 7oclock position, where as the EGR? on the right intake has no terminal for a wire, and is infact open underneath.
I am just building a stock 305. So I dont care if I go MAF or MAP. I just need to figure out where to start with this mess.

Re: A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
Makes little difference, same intake used for 305 and 350
Dist will work with all years ; either MAF or MAP setups
Plenum on left appears to be 90 - 92 MAP unit
If rest of intake matches the plenum ( were complete units / not bitsas ) then both appear to be late model setups to suit the later style CB heads
Either will work for MAF also but you will require the MAF sensor itself which you don't appear to have

that dizzy is a large cap one for a corvette. uses an in cap coil, the wiring is different from the small cap w/ external coil like on f bodies.
the lower manifolds are both d body manifolds, no rear external fed EGR passage and they have f body fuel rails, if one or both don't have a 9th injector you have the right manifold.

Could be then that 85 and maybe 86 used the large cao dizzy, vettes kept them till 91
A 91 F body LB9 or L98 should have a small cap hei.

Re: A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
Thanks so much for all the replys.
The big issue I was concerned about was using this dist with other setups.
I googled the numbers on the dist, and the info I found says its an 86' 305.
So I would need to get the bronze gear, and would be set I guess.
I do have a brand new MAF. Sorry I didnt include it in the pic.
Some clever people here.
Yes, the intakes are drilled for 87' and later heads.
There is no cold start injector from what I can tell (dont know exactly how to tell). Nothing is coming from the rear of the fuel rails.
I have heard one can confirm a MAP plenum by some tapped holes. Where exactly are the tapped holes?
Ive got so many questions.
But I will search out the answer, or start separate threads.
This link may help with the dist/cap discussion.

88 is when they started switching to the small cap ext.mount coil.

you can wire your harness for either set up. its just 4 wires. and the wire colors are the same. pretty much snip connectors and splice another one in its place. its easier than switching out a radio

As I stated above ; dist will work with MAP or MAF
The plenum on left is a MAP one because you can see the MAP sensor ( black box with vac line to plenum ) hanging off the rear corner. The plenum has the threaded holes there to mount MAP sensor
Would be on Pass side rear in actual location

Re: A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
Now that I know what the MAP looks like and where its located, I can see that the left intake is a 90'+ and the right is an 89'.

Re: A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
Question,
Right now im in the process of deciding MAF or MAP.
This TPI is going in a jeep. And between winter and summer, I sometimes change tire size. Would this be a problem with either setup?
The reason I ask is I was told to specify the tire size when having a MAP computer set up.

Re: A pile of TPI's. Whats what?
Both setups have a speed (VSS ) input that is used for things like idle control when slowing down and TCC lockup.
The MAF 165ECM has a VSS input from the speed buffer and the MAP 730 has the VSS signal direct to ECM with a output to the speedo.
VSS unit used must match the ECM being used; different output signals
Engine will run fine without the VSS but it is a preferred input
