first l98 build
first l98 build
i'm mainly woundering if the cam i'm looking at would be too big for my set up
cam: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-CL08-466-8/
heads: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DRT-10511123P/
ported base and runners
also should i get the cam kit with lifters or just get the cam and reuse the lifters i already have?

Depends on what kind of intake setup you plan on running.....
If you're thinking of reusing the stock TPI, I would reconsider both choices. If you're going with a Superram, HSR or other alternative port injection setup, that cam could be a little bigger to get the most out of the engine. The 215cc intake ports would like a Comp XFI-280 instead of the 268, but you may lose low-end driveability unless you tune it right.
As far as the lifters go, it also depends on how used they are. I reused mine, but that was because I had a fresh L98 long block with less than 10K miles on it. I was also told by a local engine builder (his word, not mine) that the factory lifters work just fine since they're designed to last 150K+ miles, but they are heavier and net more inertial losses in the engine.

Re: first l98 build
i'm planing on keeping the tpi for at least a few more years. what would be a better combo? i know afr are considered one of the best but thats way out of my budget. i'm looking at spending around 1000 to 1500 at most.
in regards to the lifters, one of the guys at one of the local shops here told me pretty much the same thing i was just checking what some others thought about it.
