Questions about switching to Vortec TPI
Alright so I'm dead set on moving to a TPI Vortec setup, I have my 906 Vortec heads, I have my Vortec TPI intake ordered, but I still have my old bolts for the intake and the TPI heads, will they work with the new heads and the new intake or do I need to get new bolts?

Yes and no... I would never use old head bolts, the intake bolts you can re-use.

Get some nice ARP head bolts for piece of mind. But you can certainly reuse the intake manifold hardware, if you want to. Those inverted torx were notorious for rounding out, I did not reuse mine.

Vortec intake bolts are apparently 5/16" ;
not the 3/8" of reg SBC
"Vortec Intake Bolts are 5/16" instead of the standard 3/8" used on most GM Small Block intakes.
1 per pack, With factory thread sealer. (8 required) "

Re: Questions about switching to Vortec TPI
Thats what I was afraid of, the bolts being different lengths and different thread counts. Also, I got the head bolts for the 906 heads off of the crate engine, and well they were used, but the engine was never fired, so they're good as new, but they are for a 96-02 long block truck replacement engine. Will those head bolts fit in my 87 305 block with no issues?

Re: Questions about switching to Vortec TPI
Reason some say to use new head bolts is because used bolts have been stressed when tightened up to spec;
not because they are old

Re: Questions about switching to Vortec TPI
May not be related directly to the bolt question, but here's a little extra info. I've heard TPI vortec intakes do not flow very well. I'd look at porting it out a bit to take advantage of the Vortec heads. Just my 2 cents
