I hate being beat by some turbo 4 bangers and v6 sedans!! I need to do something but got to get all the info first . How far could you go with the stock 305 tpi PCM how much power can it handle?.I have seen some high performance mass airflow sensors do those help? Hopefully in the near future I will get a camshaft and some head work, Ive heard that the T-5 can only handle around 325 hp is that true? well mostly Im concerned is about the ecm and or eprom. for now Ill just get ready and get the exhaust and intake...thanks for reading

 

The 5-speed cars actually have a decent cam in them. If you want to get some additional hp on your car get some headers and a cat-back exhaust. Both are a must!! The factory exhaust is a huge bottleneck on these cars. Then put in some 3.73 gears in the rear, port the plenum, add some high-flow runners, 1.6 roller rockers, high performance tune up, and you will probably drop over a second in the quarter mile. I dropped my 1/4 mile by a 1.5 seconds with these mods.

The aftermarket Granatelli MAF is junk (I had it and it was worthless!!) The stock PCM is decent and as long as you don't go to big on the cam you should not have any problems tuning it. But all the mods I just gave you will require no PCM tuning and deliver solid performance.

ooh nice I though so about the Granatelli but wasnt sure. Cool sounds pretty decent for now. I got to restore the fuel and steering system. With the rockers; would it be helpful to degree it since the valves are opening more?

Would the 350's L98 heads help out and would they fit? how about the aluminum one? dont they have bigger valves, and maybe if I can get them port and polished they should.

 

The rocker install is very straight forward, a degreeing is not necessary.

 

Since I have a peanut cam auto car my original times were a pathetic 16.3, have run a 14.9 before the rocker install. Should run at least 14.8 with the new rockers installed. You are probably starting at 14.8 stock and should have no problem getting the car into the mid to high 13's.

 

I have 1.6 rocker, shorty headers, cat back, Msd box & coil, crank pulley and afpr along with good wire. air filter etc. My fuel press is set at 50.5 for me this is about as far i think I could go with out tunning the stock prom, due to I'm running a bit lean at WOT. I will probably go to the track this weekend so I will let you know how it ran.

 

nice thanks I just got the dual cat setup just need to find some headers that will bolt up with them , would a fabricated catback work allright? ooh by the way I cant really find a decent air intake for mine, I liked how the dual slp setup was looking forward to making one similar.

is it true that for the rocker arms, the only ones that I need are the intake side not the exhaust?

 

I installed this: air intake (got it for cheap), 1.6 roller rockers and a catback exhaust, bypassed the coolant that goes to the TB. Will port the plenum later because the dremel wasnt working, and ran out of cash now need to save some money for headers, runners and maybe even a base, new wiring for the ignition system somehow the wires that pick up power from the starter are not good enough, and the car seems to loose voltage everywhere from the radio to the engine and the interior lights.

 

Any update from the track??

 

nop, cause damm time for new injectors, got a used set form a friend but one of them stopped working after a couple of weeks. :/
