Cold misfire

I just recently took out my 85 firebird tpi and have been trying to get it back into good running shape. I have done a full tuneup. Set timing to 4degrees. Adjusted the tps to .54. I have also removed the upper intake a throttle body to replace the gaskets. I replaced the egr and gasket. While this solved my stalling when cold it didn't resolve everything.

When i start the car cold it will run rough or misfire up until about 1500 to 2000 rpms then smooth right out. This is in park just slowly revving it. Even on the road misses at low rpm but if i step on it even loaded it is smooth as can be and runs great. The misses slowly goes away while warming up and just about completly goes away when warm. I unplugged the maf and it is considerable smoother but not perfect. So it is either bad or just masking the problem i am having. Thanks for all your input or help.

Re: Cold misfire

Another thing i want to add is that if i hold it at lets say 1000 rpms while it's running rough it starts to pop out of the intake.

Re: Cold misfire

My 85 TPI behaved EXACTLY like this, until I replaced the MAF sensor. I'd recommend the BWD from advance auto. I tried the cardone one and that one didn't last too long. Looked like they had just yanked it out of a junkyard when I pulled it out of the box.

BTW, base timing should be 6* BTDC unless you have it at 4* for a specific reason.
