Another 383 TPI Build...
Hey guys,
I'm planning on doing this next spring when I move into my new house and have a garage to work on this. I am going to buy the block fully assembled already. I checked online and found a decent price from "Dominator Engines" here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...Q5fAccessories
The engine specs that the guy recommended for my TPI setup (ported plenum, AS&M runner, Accel lingenfelter manifold, 48mm TB, gutted baffles, 6E MAF PROM) are as follows:
"First I start with a seasoned block oven baked and shot peened magnafluxed bored, true decked, aligned honed, I use a Eagle Balanced Rotating Assembly with Speed Pro Hyper Pistons , Perfect Circle Plasma Moly Rings, Clevite bearings, Howards cam & Lifters, renegade Racing Aluminum Heads and I build with Stainless Steel valves with 3 angle valve job and Viton positive valve stem seals. I use Felpro gaskets, Bowtie Timing & Valve Covers, Melling Oil Pump. The heads are 64cc chambers 210cc int. runners 2.020 & 1.600 valve size cam specs dur. 272/278 Dur.@.050219/224 Lift 510/525 on 112 CL (ntake/Exh)"
Then I asked him what the cost of upgrading the crank, rods, and pistons to forged would be and he quoted it being 900$ extra for the whole forged assembly.
The total would be:
Not forged: $3670.00 plus freight
FORGED: $4570.00 plus freight
Is this a good price for this engine combo? Also, will my TPI flow enough air for this engine to make alot of HP and TQ? It's advertised as 452HP and 500TQ but that's with a carb. I'm going to keep my accessories as well as my mini starter on this engine and he will paint it my color of choice.
The not forged price seems like a good deal to me and I don't think I'll need to go forged since I'm not revving high with the TPI and I'm definitely not boosting it or using NOS. This is going to be the engine that will have to last me forever lol.

I hate to bump this but does anyone know if this combo works well with TPI?

IMO for gm type tpi i would stick to 355 max.... the bigger the cubes the less rpms you have with tpi... it just makes way too much torque and not enough air up top for a 383..... that cam they list it a small cam also...... you will choke that 383 with the tpi... even tho your aftermarket tpi setup is nice its still just not enough air for it ..... now if you did a FIRST tpi then i would use that block, but use a bigger cam than the one they offer.... the gm hotcam is bigger than that and its considered a small cam..... im using it in my 355 block..... i wouldnt go forged if your not doing any power adders.. but i went forged anyway with my NA setup.....
