cold air intake vs. gutted air box

been debating on gutting my factory tpi air box on my 92 z28 and doing the free ram air mod or building a custom cai and run it down under the pass side batt tray. wondering which way would be more benificial? the car is going in the garage this winter with my trans am an i plan to put on the hedman headers i got for it replace caved in oil pan and some other maintinace. the car is being setup more to handle autocross type driving but i figure anything i can do to help my lb9 breathe will help me out.

Unless you take in air directly from out side the car, and feed it directly into the motor with no gaps, forget about it. Only for show.
