Cam Ideas

I am looking for a good cam for my 305 build and I was wondering about your opinions on who has the best cam.

Re: Cam Ideas

What are your goals? My 85 El Camino has a late model L-31 GM roller cam installed and runs great! Pulls strong to 5500 rpm, idles smooth. I used 1.6 rocker arms, so the gross lift is something like .450 I - .470 E. GM Ramjet cams might also be a good fit. The trick to a good running 305 is NOT to over-cam the engine. Make sure your valve springs are up to the task as well.

Re: Cam Ideas

Thanks for the post. The billet core thing is what I was looking for, also I dont have very many goals for performance because of a planned engine swap, I am just looking to have a solid running 305.

Re: Cam Ideas

On my '87 305 L69, I used an LT1 cam. Has lift of .470, which is about the max on stock heads. Runs really good.
