I know i must be missing something here, why would someone go with a a/c delete pulley? couldnt you just get a belt for the motor without a/c?

Because when the factory didn't install A/c they used the pulley in place of the compressor
so same belt

You can and it's much cleaner. However, I found the a/c delete belt length given (eg Rock auto) is too long. I needed a 1/2 inch shorter. Measure it with string and get just what you need.

It makes using the belt tensioner easier.
You can delet the whole pass side bracket if you make a adjuster for your alt. Use a super short belt. Its a bit of fab work but it cleans it up.

I had a friend do it on a Z28. You could use a turnbuckle mounted to the alternator and use that to adjust the tension on the belt.

Re: a/c delete pulley - why?

i want to try this but im not really sure what to buy or what belt to get or anything..... that whole bracket is basically useless because i just have a ac delete pulley and i bypassed the smog altogether with a shorter belt and different routing system.. so i dont even have a smog delete pulley...

You can test it without buying anything .
Just run a piece of string around the proposed setup to check alignment and any clearance problems.
Allow for the fact that the Alt has to have a small amount of outboard movement to give belt tension.
If you are happy, position the Alt at end of inward movement and use the string to get required belt length

FWIW.
There are guys on the Vette forums that did not swap their pumps and say they have no problems running the rev rotation pump in opposite direction
The vanes on the impeller are straight so they move coolant regardless of direction turned
