Which intake and throttle body for tpi 1st gen350
Which intake and throttle body for tpi 1st gen350
So I'm looking to convert my 350 to tpi using a megasquirt pcm, and I would like some advice on an intake/ throttle body setup. I'm think I want to use a victor junior intake and machine in the injector bungs. I currently have a performer rpm which I could use but I think the victor should work good on the street with the tpi and the low weight of the car. As for the throttle body I'm not sure what to use. I believe I need somewhere around a 62mm diameter for a dual bore or 44mm for a 4 barrel. If I could find something with a iac built in that would be great. There is always the old carb option which is probably the cheapest.
Here is what I found others have done.

What do you guys think of the
Professional Products Super Hurricane
manifold very tempting at only $230 but it says "do not attempt to put on a 350 made for 421-430" Do you think this would still work with my gears and weight?

I dont know much about the hurricane series, but theres a chance that the ports on the super are atleast 1206 to 1207 gasket size and are designed to fit the larger heads that go with 420+ inch motors. Larger cross sectional areas in the runners to pass the flow required for a big inch motor. May not line up well with smaller head ports.
But it all reality, its EFI....you dont have intake issues that you would have with a carb motor, like low vacuum signals and low air velocity. EFI doesnt care. In that sense, I'm not sure why they would say not to use that on sub 400" motors. No reason it cant be used IMO. The part description is the same for the carb manifold as it is with the EFI version, so in a carbed application, DONT USE IT on a smaller inch motor. For EFI, it really doesnt matter but like I said, the ports may be too large for the head so the base hurricane may be better choice.
you can look at the Victor E EFI intake for SBC. I have it on my turbo motor but just driving around with a restricted throttlebody and exhaust off boost, it drives great, feels torquey enough. EFI doesnt care about intake size IMO. I think this intake would work for any 350+ inch motor.
If you wanted a PP Hurricane series intake, look at the smaller ones and try to compare features. Any good single plane will work on your motor.
For throttlebody you can get an MPFI type 4-barrel type TB or you can get one of the intake elbows from edelbrock or intakeelbows.com and run a LSx type TB, either 85-92mm type. They all should work as long as you have a mount for the throttle cable. I made my own bracket.
Megasquirt should beable to use TPI sensors as well as LS1 sensors for TB so thats not a problem. Just need to decide what setup you want to run.
