113 vette heads CFM

Does anyone know what the 113 and 128 vette heads flow stock and if one is better than the other. What are people getting out of them after they are ported. Wondering if it is easier to get a phase 6 aluminum bowtie head instead. They will be bolted to a HSR which flows 275 stock if my info is correct. Anyone know anything about the $599.00 aluminum heads being sold on ebay that have 210 ports?

At what price? ( unless you are doing it yourself )
May be more cost effective to buy a head that has has higher flow out of the box

Re: 113 vette heads CFM

According to the www.purplesagetradingpost.com the protopline heads are the way to go. They flow great out the box and I think they were among the most affordable if memory serves. That was a great link and everyone should look at it. The vette heads are barely making it to 200 CFM so they would need a lot of work. The AFR heads were good but so is the price with them. The bowtie phase 6 was probably the best with high compression and led to the fastburn which was also one of the very best. I have track 1 heads and they flow extremely well but are costly and budget wise would not make a good daily driver "street" head. I guess procomps would rate first considering flow vs price and bowties and vortecs would be up there as well. Fastburns are hard not to look at also.

Re: 113 vette heads CFM

Here is a little secret I'll share with you. CALL AN ENGINE BUILDER! If you buy a set of heads that look great on paper and find out that after you bolt them on they need work your screwed. Nearly any of the top builders are going over the stuff coming in now. Check some of the other sites and find horror stories of NEW parts that need work. My engine builder said he rarely will see new parts come in that one minor thing seems to get over looked. Holes in blocks not tapped, seals on new heads forgotten. or one of the best a friend had. OOPs they did NOT install valve seats and he nearly destroyed an engine. This was last spring he wound up redoing the BIG SALE SPECIAL heads of a big MFG by a big parts Vendor we all know. Yes get a deal from an engine builder near you who can deal with something screwed up. If you order it and it is bad your screwed, he orders it he deals with it and stands behind his choice. IMHO

I agree, My thinking is that a HSR flows 275 stock so if I can find a reputable head that flows (on paper) 275 then get Greg Vandeventer to check it on his flow bench and make sure then I am OK. I know the 113 heads are good heads (quality) along with the bowties since GM makes them. I have heard that Brodix makes all of the GMPP heads for GM but I don't know for sure. Brodix is a trusted name as well.
On a big dollar race engine AFR or Brodix would be way up on my list. A street motor with street manners needs around 500-550 lift and 220 to 236 duration @50 to make it friendly which means compromise. Compromise also spills over into the dollar part of the equation as well since you don't need big technology and CNC work.
I don't know much about the Chinese heads on ebay for $400.00 but if there claims are true then it is a good head. They have a 220cc that flows around 260 at 550 lift that seems like it would be a perfect street head.

Run don't walk from the off shore stuff, check out Wolfplace on Team Chevelle alot of buying parts he knows what work and do. Actual name is Mike Lewis well known and respected. Lewis Racing Engines.com Contact him and see what offshore stuff he would buy, most likely NONE. Sorry I have boughten junk and it cost more to replace/repair the junk then buy the better stuff the first time.

Re: 113 vette heads CFM

Some of the chinese castings are ok, but not the parts you get with them. valvetrain is the most important part of the motor so skimp there, and you will be paying for it later.

Like said, 113 heads can get near 260cfm Aint bad at all. call Lloyd Elliott from E Port Works, he may beable to rebuild them/port them for around 700-800 bucks, depending on what you get done, and flow 250 cfm or so. Plenty for good power on a street motor.

I inquired about having a set done years ago but never built that motor that was going to use them
