Injector Blues

Recently picked up a 1989 Firebird Formula 350 TPI. It had sat for 10 to 11 years without running. A long stay at the state penitentiary was reason for idle time. It supposedly ran when parked. The fuel in tank had turned to the usual nasty varnish. I completely reconditioned the fuel supply system. New tank, pump. sender, lines, etc. Flushed all other lines and rail. It now has adequate fuel pressure, but will not fire. It will however start if I squirt gas into the throttle body. What are the odds of all 8 Mertec injectors being stuck? Or could there be some thing else I'm missing? Thanks for the assistance.

Re: Injector Blues

Check the resistance of the Injectors. they should be in the 16 Ohm neighborhood.(15-17 acceptable)

What kind of fuel pressure are you seeing when cranking?

Re: Injector Blues

I checked a few, which were all 15 - 16 ohm. 40 to 42 psi.

Re: Injector Blues

They (injs) are stuck from varnish. I have fixed several cars with this same prob. They will need cleaned or replaced. I would just replace them because most places charge 2-300$ to flow check and clean. if you clean them you also run the risk of the injs failing down the road, stock ones arnt great.

Re: Injector Blues

If you need new injectors check out southbay, they have great prices and service.

http://www.southbayfuelinjectors.com...esign_lll.html

You would need the 22lb injector for the 350
