Hey all
I have been offered by a member of this forum an Accel super ram TPI base that apparently has been drilled to fit Vortec heads. He was using it on his 92 L98 and prior to that it was fitted to a 355 Vortec headed engine ( same as I am building). I need to know if this base is ok for Vortec heads as I thought they had taller ports? Thanks for your help in clearing this up for me before I purchase.

you can't just drill for vortec heads. If its drilled it came that way with the duel bolt pattern 55-86 87up. you will need a scoggen dickey tpi vortec manifold or edelbrock 3817.

depending on the manifold you can re drill the heads

That was my understanding too. I knew I needed aVortec specific base but have no experience with the Accel super ram base .

I see how you can redrill but that doesn't address the port alignment miss match so what would be the point?
the intake port would have needed to be raised. and these gaskets would need tobe installed. I would ask for a picture. would have to be modified manifold with alot of fill work.

Already asked for photo as I had my doubts, see what happens, thanks for your advice.

( the aftermarket Vortec heads shown have both bolt patterns )

Its doable, but without the skills and the base to start with, isn't really worth it. Anyone with machine shop skills and a tig welder can make the accel base work, but for the average guy, just buy the correct intake base.

I'm building my Super-ram Scoggin Dickey Vortec manifold right now. You will need to clearance the intake manifold because the mounting boss for two of the intake bolts will not allow you to fit the Accel Super ram runners. You'll also need 2 flat headed or button headed bolts.
