wont run good cold with maf plugged in.

this is a crazy problem. If i start the truck with the maf plugged in it runs bad farts, hiccups, pops back through the maf till it runs for 15 min or so. But If i unplug the maf before it starts then plug it in right away after it starts it will run like a champ . This has had 3 maf's all the same.

one other thing I have been driving around with the scanner hooked up and it will go into closed loop with the maf unplugged WHY?

Re: wont run good cold with maf plugged in.

You need to check the power relay's, the MAF burn off relay and if any of those are messed up, as in not working correctly, the MAF life is dramatically shortened, and it goes into closed loop even though its not working, because its still trying to get the best MPG it can.

they are very hard to track these relays down, so just buy all three at hawksthirdgen.org At least you'll get the right ones.

I had trouble in my iroc when one relay failed, I replaced them all. The car will always work better with the MAF attached, working, no lights of course. I am a ASE certifed technician. But I was into fast cars first. Most technicians tell you it won't work or something, when you tell them about anything. Well look at my formula 3.96 60ft used 267hp, the 1/4 was 13.2 @ 105mph, gtech said 254 hp! That rear gear, in a car with a 4.44 would run a second faster than mine. I have stock 3.27 posi, nittos, that day 9bolt posi was acting up, but you have to set it with the parking break if it doesn't engage. That doesn't mean the cones are bad! Also a aluminum driveshaft 300 stall, 700r4 with full shift kit, giant trans cooler, and a lot of suspension in the rear. Well look at the youtube vids

Re: wont run good cold with maf plugged in.

today i tried to plug in the maf after it has been running good for a couple days and as soon as i plugged it in it ran like crap i couldn't give it any throttle. even when i unplugged it it never changed. I had to take the battery cable off to clear it and leave it unplugged. it runs ok but it had a high idle.

you can pull the ecm fuse for 10 seconds to clear the codes, one of the power relays isn't working, any of the three not providing power or the burnoff section will screw up everything, so check the three relays!

Re: wont run good cold with maf plugged in.

Have a question? Concerning MAF. My car just started having problems loosing power. or when i start up the oil pressure gage up then straight down and dies. Well today i unpluged the MAF and started right up and drove to the store and home. So what are these three relays you guys are talking about? And is it bad to drive with the Map unpluged?

Re: wont run good cold with maf plugged in.

I did replace it but I feel it doesn't move fast enough. I also don't think it moves when i ground the A and B pins on the ADL connector.to set the idle.
