1.7 rockers on 113 aluminum heads?

I see that Scorpion makes 1.7 roller rockers for the SBC. I'm wondering if anyone has tried them on a "stock" L-98. I realize I would need hardened pushrods and guide plates since they aren't self-aligning rockers, and new springs of course.

The 1.7's would give me .468/.485 lift from the stock cam without excessive cost or work, so unless someone knows of serious issues this could be interesting.

I did already e-mail Scorpion, just curious what the forum thinks.

you also have to think: at what lift do you reach coil bind for stock springs..

Nevermind - I just saw that these are standard width and won't work with the center bolt heads.

Another incorrect listing for parts from Summit.

For about the same cost, a cam swap would produce much better results.

Re: 1.7 rockers on 113 aluminum heads?

A cam change would cost a lot more I would think. It would mean I would have to drop the pan, pull the front of the engine off, new timing set and the cost of the cam on top of having to do all the valvetrain work as well. Plus, I'd have to pull the intake I just installed to get the lifters off the cam.

Certanily a more modren cam would give better results, but the idea was to keep it "bolt-on". Rockers I can do from the top in an afternoon - a cam swap would easily be a full weekend, maybe a 3 day weekend if I don't have someone to help me. Since it's my only car I'll have to stick with bolt-ons.

Re: 1.7 rockers on 113 aluminum heads?

A flat tappet cam is about 1/3 the cost of a set of good roller rockers. A roller cam is still less than the rockers, and will produce far better results. New rockers only add lift, but a cam will add duration as well as modified timing events.
