So is it a good idea or a bad idea? Just had a sweet Port and Polish done to my SLP runners but I would love to have more material on my runner gaskets. The SLP gaskets are too thin (not wide enough).

Make-you-own gasket material comes in various thicknesses. I've used a cereal box to partially block a rad in the winter months, but I don't like the shiny side of the box for use as a gasket.

Gasket paper is a special blend of materials designed to compress just enough and hold up under pressure. I don't know if the cheap cardboard used for a cereal box will do the same. Definitely invest in gasket paper.

True story here, I used a cereal box for a gasket on an 89 Cadillac water pump. With that being said a lot of silicone was used. And it wasn't my car the guy who owned it let a crackhead change it and this guy had his subframe unbolted, radiator out, and half of the pieces on the fender wall removed. When I put it back together the auto part store wasnt open and he couldnt wait another day so he begged me to make it out of a cereal box.
Note this guy came to me I told him $200 labor for the job and he said too much. This guy told him $45 dollars and he ended up paying me $300 to fix it. Do your car right the first time saves so much money. While cereal box is usable I don't trust it you can buy different forms of gasket paper very cheap or for a decent price. But still cheaper than a premade.
I forget who sells it but we use it at the car wash its a gasket you with a mild adhesive you set it on what you want and tap it with a hammer( a very small one) and it froms the gasket and is super easy to cut. Best stuff ever made!

25k miles so far on them lol no leaks
i would think that since the tpi plenum gaskets are much thicker in general i wouldnt but
then again the stock gaskets are dry flow and been useing the factory gaskets still for tpi i would reuse them unless one is ripped

Re: Has anyone made a cereal box gasket for the TPI Runners?
Based on how many times I've re-used the same TPI gaskets over and over again, I'm pretty sure that you can make them out of pretty much anything. It's probably been 10 years since I've bought any TPI gaskets, and in that time I've had my plenum & runners off the IROC a dozen times and had them off the Corvette at least twice. The fact that it's a dry environment (aside from minimal PCV material) makes it pretty easy on the gaskets.

LOL, I'm with Jim, I've had the same set of gaskets since I bought the car!!!!! ....that being said, I don't know that I'd use a cereal box when new oversized runner gaskets are so cheap.
