Re: unplugging MAF
No, it will throw some codes at the computer and probably not run right, you wiring harness and computer is set up for MAF. You will need to change your harness and re tune your computer to run on speed density. You will need the harness out of a 91-92 TPI and the computer. MAF is a completely different system than Speed Density

Re: unplugging MAF
I have to run with mine disconnected, or the car will stall out. I am going to get a new MAF, but it does not run bad unplugged. I read on another thread that it won't hurt anything and a lot of guys are running with the dicconnected. Hmmmm

Re: unplugging MAF
With the MAF unplugged the ECM uses the fuel tables to adjust fuel mixture. If you have a good tune it should run fine with it unplugged, but it will run either lean or rich so it is not recommended to run without it for long. I ran mine for two weeks with it unplugged and actually got better gas mileage, but performance and response was down.

Irockid I have not replaced it yet, it runs great. No problems yet. I will be replacing it, just hope when i do that the after market one will work as good as factory one's.

Re: unplugging MAF
Id go with a direct Bosch replacement. And, avoid remanufactured ones. Ive had back luck numerous times with remanufactured Bosch sensors. Running the car long-term with the MAF unplugged is unhealthy and, I for one don't reccomend it. Short-term, yes.. get to work or grab groceries.

Re: unplugging MAF
Thanks for the feedback. I recently purchased a reman Bosch at napa. It doesn't seem to be working properly. It's still under warranty, hopefully it's replacement works better. I'll let you know how I make out.

Re: unplugging MAF
I would like to hear back, curious if you get a better one. So can you buy a new bosch? Instead of a reman? What did you have to pay for it?

Re: unplugging MAF
I just installed the bosch maf I got from napa with another one... and it runs much better!!! No codes, better throttle response than when it was unplugged, seems great! This project has been frustrating, i think Ive got all the bugs worked out. Thanks for the replies and good luck! Keep posting with your results.
