Gas leak help?

Hey guys,

I have a 1987 IROC z-28, with the 305 TPI automatic transmission. The other day, i was driving home, and I noticed my car was kinda driving a little weird... so I pulled off to the side of the road, and as soon as i let off the gas, the car stopped. I looked at the engine and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but after trying to start it a few times, I smelled gasoline. Found out that it's leaking out of the throttle body where the intake is attached. It seems as though there is a lot of gas just kind of slowly leaking out.. but when i press the gas, it opens the throttle and gas pours out.

Have any of y'all had a similar problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Re: Gas leak help?

I'd guess the diaphragm in your FPR is shot.

Re: Gas leak help?

It sits under the TPI plenum. It has a vacuum hose going to it and has a circle of torx head screws holding it together. Pull the vacuum hose off and see if there is fuel in it. If there is, then the diaphragm is leaking.

Re: Gas leak help?

Okay so i checked the FPR, there was one rubber tube coming out of it and it was dry. I opened up the throttle and there is a good amount of gas still sitting in there. Any ideas of what i could do?... I've never had a problem like this. I dont want to take it to a shop.. id much rather do it myself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Spencer

Re: Gas leak help?

Try KOEO and I'll bet you see gas coming out of where the hose connects to the FPR.
