Car quite, getting a continuous code 12

Two weeks ago my car wouldn't start, wouldn't turn over at all so I had to have it towed home. Messed around with it and found out I had a VATS problem in my ignition switch. So I went to radio shack and bought a resistor and installed it in the harness at the base of the steering column. The car fired right up. Drove it two weeks with no other issues, ran great, but it died on me while driving home from work the other day.

I pulled the codes from the computer and got a continuous code 12, flashed over five times each time I tried it with no other codes stored. So I checked for spark, none, also the fuel pump won't prime when the ignition switch is turned on. Basically the car will turn over but everything else is dead. I double checked my resistor and its still getting 1.47 ohms so I ruled out the VATS as being the issue. At least I don't think its the issue. I pulled the ignition module and had it tested, it was fine. Installed a new coil, still nothing. But I'm getting 12 volts to the coil. As for the fuel system the relay makes that sound when the switch is turned to the on position, but the fuel pump doesn't come on. My fuel pump is a brand new Walbro, installed it back in May along with a new sending unit and fuel filter.

So I'm starting to think my ECM is bad. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm about ready to pull this TPI garbage off and toss a carb on the car to eliminate these issues. I just don't understand how it would loose fuel and spark altogether. I've checked all my fuses and they are fine. Not sure how to test the relays but I haven't located any broken or loose wiring. Basically I'm stumped... this is a 1989 L-98 IROC camaro.

Re: Car quite, getting a continuous code 12

are you getting a 2 second prime on the fuel pump when the key is turned on ? A1 of the ecm sends power to the fuel pump relay for the prime. You can also send power to pin G of the aldl and see if the pump runs.

Re: Car quite, getting a continuous code 12

Ground terminals A and B (see diagram below) with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a Code 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A Code 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession.

After Code 12 is displayed, any stored trouble codes will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All codes are displayed 3 times each then a code 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

Re: Car quite, getting a continuous code 12

I bought my 86 like that all it did was 12 over and over. Then I realized I didn't have my scanner in it and it still did 12. Bought a new computer started rite up. Six months later died again. So I took the battery and now I'm working on the body.
