Im looking at a car thats got a TPI engine swapped in. Is there a way to tell which one it is besides obviously running the engine block numbers?

Re: LB9 Or L98?
Sure.
Run the block numbers.
If that doesn't work, then run the block numbers, instead.
The one to use is the casting number, conveniently located out in the open in plain sight, on top of the bell housing flange behind the driver's side head. Don't bother with the "stamping" codes on the deck on the pass side, too hard to get reliable and complete data on those.

Measuring bore and or stroke?
AS you can see, the block numbers is the only way to know for sure.
