Exhaust and intake mods. Big runners and ported base or aftermarket base or go different efi intake like holley stealth ram, edelbrock pro flo xt, etc
Make great hp gains, but should compliment it with some home tuning and a torque converter with more stall speed. 2000$ will get you a good amount of items if you shop around

F.I.R.S.T. TPI intake, tq converter, trans build, brake upgrades, headers and catback.
It all depends on what kind of power your looking for.
What are you doing with the car?

The FIRST would eat up more than half his budget, plus a few more cents getting it plumbed up and installed!!

Re: upgrading my L98 need some ideas
I would like to do a 1st intake on my 89 formula350 if I didnt have to cut the TBody mount off and weld on the normal TPI T-body mount..
I just hate that T-body it uses.

Re: upgrading my L98 need some ideas
Ive always wondered what a nice 383 with GMPP fast burns, a FIRST vortech base/intake with a matched cam would do with the right stall. I wish I had an extra 3 grand to find out.. I agree though, Im not a huge fan of the T-body..

Sticky tires lile a Micley Thompson drag radial 245/50/16
2400-2600rpm stall torque converter/shift kit/trans cooler
100 shot of nitrous oxide, Nitrous Express LT1 wet kit works good
These mods take you from a 14/15 second car to a 12 second car.
They most importantly DO NOT NEED custom pcm tuning to work properly. The tremendous amount of torque will test your driveshaft/rear gear and axles. Mo power mo problems.. Goodluck! That is the cheapest and easiest way to a quick TPI setup.

Re: upgrading my L98 need some ideas
First intake with gm hotcam.... sounds mean and very quick on the street
Ken has stopped making them for like a year now... dont know whats going on over there and good luck trying to find a used one complete.... but if he does get back on track Get a FIRST and never look back.... just make sure you come up with a throttlebody adapter to use the stock type... the FIRST tb is a big POS had numerous idiling and driveability issues with the throttlebody....luckily ken made me the only adapter plate..EVER....and he assured me that he WILL not be making anymore adapter plates after mine...anyways car drives and runs perfect after the adapter and used my stock throttlebody. I will never sell my custom FIRST considering you cant buy one like mine...
here is the issue I had with the stock FIRST throttlebody
