great running L-98 TPI combo
Hi Guys,
I thought I'd share an update on the build for my 91 Corvette. I had to re-do the engine in November after an overheat problem.
I bought an 87 Corvette L-98 with 64K on it and used the short block as a base. From there, I used GM Fast Burn heads, a Scoggin-Dickey LT-4 replacement cam, Comp 1.52 roller tips and re-used my existing Accel hi-flow base, runners, ported plenum and 58 mm TB, 24 lb BoschIII's, as well as my LT-1 manifolds to replace the crappy factory headers. I also replaced the y-pipe and rear cat with new Magnaflow pieces - gotta be smog compliant here in Kalifornia. I got a tune from PCM4LESS. March 3-pc pulleys.
I still need to get my AFPR in place and replace the runner gaskets that I had to hand-cut at the time (currently have a vacuum leak), but it's running REALLY well. It idles smooth, drives great and has lots of torque - plus it will REV now
Hopefully I can get it dyno'd in the next few weeks to get some solid numbers. Last weekend we were on a Corvette Run and I had the opportunity to chase a stock C5 6-speed with a cat-back on it up to about 70 and paced him pretty much dead even.
Please ignore the bouncing tach in the vids.
First vid is on a flat and level test area (no audio, cell phone vid):
Good stuff on this one starts at about 2:10 - even though this is an uphill freeway ramp it will give you a little bit better idea:
Idle and revving:
