Tpi running rich
Hey guys, ive been having issues with my 88 Gta, 305 tpi,
its been running rich as hell, to the point where the plugs are black and covered in gas... and to where the car wont even start because its flooded.
i have already changed the plugs twice...
the car has no power, and acts like its flooding out when you drive it.
i cant floor it, it will just do nothing... if i feather the gas it slowly revs up...
there is no Ses light.
heres what ive changed over the last couple months..
tps (adjusted correctly)
cts
knock sensor
spark control module
o2 sensor
maf
maf burn off relay
maf power realy
fuel pump, filter
complete distributor, cap, rotor, coil, wires, plugs
i swapped the ecm for the hell of it, no difference.
there is plenty of spark, fuel pressure according to my gauge has been 40-45psi. injectors all ohm out at around 15-16ohms..
the timing should be pretty damn close..
im really at a loss here and sick of throwing parts at it,
so my main question is...what would make it run so rich?
im currently thinking a vacuum leak, or the egr stuck open.

Hey Tony.....
This is probably gonna sound lame.... Do you still have a CAT in your exhaust system? If so, it may have collapsed restricting the exhaust. My ole 83 Z28 did that to me years ago. It would barely idle and if I dropped the hammer it would immediately stall. I couldn't figure it out, so I finally had to admit defeat and just pay a mechanic to look at it. (this was pre laptop days btw) I barely got home and he called. When he put the "sniffers" in my tailpipes they couldn't get a reading. Barely any exhaust pressure was being released but I did witness that rich smoke behind me. He suspected the CAT and sure enough, once removed, it's innards fell to the shop floor. Just thought I'd share a story.... needless to say, I felt like a dumb-***. ;']

fuel pressure regulator diaphragm ok? Fuel in vacuum port to FPR? Seems it would affect fuel pressure, but it's only other thing I can think of off the top of my head to make it that rich. I agree that cat needs to be checked

hey guys, yes i have removed the cat, well i just gutted it. but yes.
i haven't seen any fuel in the vac line to the fuel pressure regulator.
the fuel pressure has been around 40-45 psi no lower then 38..39..
my next thing is taking apart the regulator.
