Vortec cam selection....

Ok ive searched and searched and search it's time to post a question!

I'm getting a re-manufactured vortec motor for $1200 from advanced (with my discount.) I'm keeping the top end TPI (yes i know how to do this.) I dont want to touch the vortec heads. They have a limited lift of 450 and its staying that way. I'd love to hear some recommendations of a good roller cam to get. Its not going to be a drag car all i want is some added power while keeping my fuel economy. Should i stick with the stock cam? If anyone has any idea of a good cam for this vortec tpi setup please lmk.

Thanks in advanced
-Sam

If you already have a stock L98 cam then I think that would be your best bet. In my opinion its really not worth the expense of a aftermarket cam if you are not doing the machine work needed for additional lift. However, another option may be to upgrade the springs to a beehive or even LS6 springs and run a LT1 cam. I am currently gathering parts for a vortec TPI build however my heads are machined and I am running a LT4 cam.

I've been running LT4 cam/1.6 rockers in vortec engine with the 0411 computer changeover for couple month now and it runs great. Started with TPI ecm setup and it needed tuning really bad, but the 0411 setup runs outstanding. I picked cam up off corvette forum for 35.00 in perfect shape.

Re: Vortec cam selection....

I run an LT1 cam with beehive springs in my otherwise stock vortec long block and it is a pretty strong combo. I wanted an LT4 cam but couldn't find one at the time. But over all I am happy with the LT1 cam.

Re: Vortec cam selection....

I've had a LT4 cam in mine since I installed it over ten years ago. Has been my DD the whole time.
