I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

SO WHERE TO BEGIN...... IM NEW TO THE CHEVY 3RD GEN WORLD BUT SO FAR ALL THE FORUMS I HAVE READ HAVE HELPED ME OUT ALOT..... SO I BEGAN MY PROJECT APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO..... VEHICLE: (86 CAMARO IROC Z28 305 TPI)... I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AND DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO START IT UP..... FIRST ISSUE I RAN INTO WAS A DEAD BATTERY.... GOT A NEW BATTERY AND WENT TO START THE CAR IT WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT START.... I PRIMED IT AND IT WOULD START BUT WOULD TURN OFF ALMOST INSTANTLY..... DISCONNECTED A LINE TO THE FUEL FILTER AND TURNED THE KEY ON NO GAS COMING MY WAY.... SO I CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP..... WENT TO START THE CAR NOTHING.... AFTER LOOKING ON THIS FORUM THANK GOD I FOUND A 20 AMP FUSE HAD BLOWN.... SWAPPED IT AND THE CAR CRANKED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THEN STARTED UP.... RUNNING LIKE **** BUT STARTED UP.... SO I CLEANED THE EGR, CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS,IGNITION WIRES,CAP AND ROTOR, AND FUEL FILTER... CAR WAS RUNNING LIKE CHAMP TRUE 5.0.... TOOK IT TO GET SMOGGED ONLY TO FAIL.... CHANGED THE CAT CONVERTER AND PRESTO IT PASSED..... I WAS STOKED FINALLY I WAS GOING TO PULL THE T-TOPS OFF AND SMASH DOWN THE FREEWAY.... I STARTED THE CAR JUST FINE AND THEN PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND THEN BOOM THE CAR SHUT OFF..... I TRIED ALMOST 10 MINS TO GET IT STARTED AND NOTHING .... IT WAS JUST RUNNING WTF HAPPEND????? SORRY FOR THE LONG STORY!!! CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP???? I DONT WANT TO ACCEPT THAT MY 600 DOLLAR PROJECT IS NOW GOING TO DOUBLE.....

Welcome to tgo, please loose the caps lock. Satrt with the basics fuel and fire it is possiable the icm failed.

WOW thanks for the quick response brother. Ill take a look at the ICM and see if i can get it tested. When i replaced the Cap and Rotor i did not change the ICM.

First test for spark, if you don't have any spark make sure the is power with the key on to the large pink wire on the side of the distributor. A bad icm can kill spark and or injector pulse. the next thing to test is fuel pressure and use a noid light to check for injector pulse.

STATIC fuel pressure, WITH leakdown time. Easy test; do you know how?

Get a fuel pressure guage - just like an air guage for a tire.

There's a fuel pressure guage port on the fuel line - Schraeder Valve - snap it on quick, to not let too much fuel out - might not be too much pressure on it anyway.

Turn the key on, listen to the fuel pump prime the line, and observe for spec fuel pressure. Write immediate pressure.

Then note the leakdown time. Write down 1 minute, 2, 5, however it goes down. Post up.

You can get a mechanic to do it, but he'll charge as much (or more), than the cost of a guage.

Right on third gen brothers...... for all your help..... looks like a the new fuel pump I relpaced two weeks ago was defective..... shot 12v directly to the fuel pump and nothing.... So I check the pump relay and the fuse bot working perfect..... pulled the pump... replaced it with a new on and bam working again.....

I JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU TO THE THIRD GEN USERS AND FORUM..... YOU GUYS ARE ****ING AWESOME.....
