Need to get a/c idle-up working on 88 TPI
Need to get a/c idle-up working on 88 TPI
Can someone help me determine why I can't get it to idle up when the a/c is turned on? I have hooked the 12 volt positive from the a/c alutch to terminal B8 on the 7165 ECM and it doesn't effect the idle at all. I don't knwo the history of the chip that is in the ECM but I can tell you the ECM is new. I have a Snapon Modis scanner but I do not have a vin number to plug in to communicate with it. I am open to all ideas as I would just like to get it working properly to keep it from stalling at stop signs and lights. Thanks

Check The grey wire on D11 of the ecm to the fan pressure switch for continuity. The pressure switch for 86-88 is normally closed 89 is n/o . A quick check bye jumping a to b on the aldl and turning the key on the ecm will command on both fans.

I appreciate the advice on the fan control, no electric fans here though, I am trying to figure out how to tell the computer to tell the engine how to idle up when the a.c clutch engages and is on.

Most $32b calibrations have a small rpm adder 50-100 rpm. if grounding d11 or putting power to b8 status input doesn't mover the target rpm the ecm is bad.

I kept thinking about your first suggestion of grounding D11. I will try that once I get home today, maybe it takes both that and the power input to B8 before it changes the idle. I had that same thought, that the ECM was bad, but I literally just bought a rebuilt one 2 days ago (granted it is a Cardone rebuilt one from Oreillys Auto) Hopefully it isn't bad straight out of the box, but I could waranty it hopefully. Here is another question, could someone have had the chip programed and taken the a/c signal off of the chip altogether?

its hit or miss with Cardone, If the memcal silver sticker looks wrinkled or torn it would have more than likely have been reprogramed. The tpi mafs used a grab bag of eproms 50% of the time I have to solder on a new one when reprograming. I dont know why any one would want to program out the a/c rpm adder but who knows
Re: Need to get a/c idle-up working on 88 TPI
The bad news is the D11 was already grounded so I am back at square one. I am trying to get a scantool working so I can see what the computer sees, perhaps I have an obvious sensor problem, or that is what i am hoping for at this point. I am going to clean the MAF sensor with some MAF sensor cleaner but that shouldn't provide the idle-up feature I am looking for but maybe the idle could compensate with a better reading MAF sensor. The injectors all ohmed out between 16.9 to 17.1 hopefully that is the right range. I need to search a little for values here in the site. The fuel pressure runs about 41-42 psi while running, 50 psi with fuel pressure regulator vacuum disconnected.
