For some reason my 86 will only idle at 1000rpm in Park no matter what I do. When the car is in drive it stays around 825rpm. Any ideas what the issue could be I have around 21000 miles on it of that matters at all.

Any help would be appreciated

 

Has it always idled that high? Perhaps its a modified chip in there. Look around under the hood and also listen for a hissing sound that indicates a vacuum hose leak. When was the filter last changed, maybe the oil flow is in bypass - just a thought. Clean the throttle body ports - maybe the flaps arent closing all the way. Finally, do a search here on how to reset the Idle Speed Controller.

 

I just changed the fuel filter the chip I believe us a Hqypertech. I think I will try to reset the IAC then to see what is happening.
