is a TPI going to work for my car?
is a TPI going to work for my car?
1st Post so hi All!!!
I am building an engine for a friend to put in a 91 Z28 Camaro that is originally a 305 TPI car.
we built a 383 with all Scat internals and about 9.5 compression and a set of ported world products Sportsman II heads that have 220cc Ports,
the cam is a Hydraulic Roller that has a .613 lift and 236 duration at .050
I ran this motor on dyno sim 5 a few different ways and in theory it makes tons of torque with the tuned port but runs out of steam at about 5000rpm.
after reading some info on here I think it may actually die off more than it says. we do have a Big Mouth base and runners, stock top box. haven't invested in any of the injectors or throttle body yet.
Should we scrap the TPI and go with something else or is it worth the effort to get the TPI working. I figure you guys have tried enough stuff that you may know if this will work or not?
Thanks for the help, Chris

TPI will choke that combo to death. Id recommend a miniram and a some gear/converter.
By the time that cam and heads start working the TPI is done even a ported aftermarket one.

Yep,, would have to spend a ton to get a LTR set up to hang with an under geared and under stalled shorter runner intake. If he has a manual transmission it's practically impossible to get a LTR to run similar ETs.
Sounds like the StealthRam might be a good choice for him. The runners are long enough that it gives a lower RPM power band similar to a dual plane intake while making within a few HP and RPM of a single plane.
