I would think 22 Lb injectors are too big. You might be able to keep them if you got the ECM re-programed, but consider going back to 19 lb injectors. Other things to consider- maybe a steeper gear ratio ( 3:42, 3:73). Next would be headers, exhaust, cam change ( LT1 cam is an good upgrade).

Re: Making my 305 run better?

flowmaster exhaust is fine, IMO, i dont think any muffler or exhausts after the headers really matter. if you go to a trans shop to have them change out the rear, it'll probably run you almost to your $600 budget. it is a lengthy mod, and if you get good parts (I.E. Richmond gears) they'll run you about $300 themselves. just food for thought.
putting rear gears in wont get you a super great surprise out of a stock 305, i put 3.73's in my 305 with headers and a few other minor mods, i can get it to burnout great, but it just doesnt have the power behind it to make it super impressive.
if it were me with $1000 to burn, i'd start with a new cam, and some headers, if you could find some used heads then go for them too. but i think you'd be more satisfied in the butt throttle indicator if you did the rear gears last. just my 2 cents
