350 tpi engine build questions
350 tpi engine build questions
Ok guys here's the deal. I'm not much of a forum writer so I don't post often but I really appreciate being able to pick so many brains at once.
So here's what I got :
70s 350 bottom end
882 heads look factory
Pretty sure it factory dished four valve relief pistons
stock tpi manifold
24lbs injectors
224/224 .447/.447 @ .050 cam lsa says 110/118
chip supposedly written for all of this.
I have a few questions. I did as much math as my brain could and figured compression around 8.3:1. My question is with this cam is this thing going to move or have any power? Didn't do my homework when I bought the cam (like at all and it was never meant for a tpi build)
Also what's my answer? Change heads and gasket for more compression? Or cam and chip? Or sell everything to fund my carb vortec 383?
Thanks again guys any help is appreciated

Re: 350 tpi engine build questions
The cam is a mismatch especially with a stock tpi manifold and/or that low compression. Heads leave a lot to be desired. Keeping the older block has no real advantages considering your stuck using a flat tappet cam unless you pay an outrageous price for retro fit roller stuff.
Personally I'd dump it all and start fresh. There's nothing I'd want to keep from it. I can't really suggest what you should build without knowing your intentions or car but the current combo isn't heading in a good direction.

Re: 350 tpi engine build questions
I was actually running with 882s for a little bit with a TPI. I also had a cam with a 110 lsa. I didn't notice how bad it ran until I upgraded my heads to edelbrock aluminum style and a comp cam (08-304-8) (114 lsa). It really woke the car up. I think at the very least I would look for a different cam.
But it also depends on what you want to engine to do, I think the combo you currently have will run, but not make very much power.
Good luck!
