Thanks all.

Re: LB9 head choice

Stock 081's arent bad. Only other choices are trickflow 175s or vortec L31's. Cant go bigger than 1.94" valve

Vortec 305 059s are better on a 305 than the L31 heads in my opinon.

Re: LB9 head choice

I havent used them but read 059 305 heads arent like the vortec 062 L31's and arent as good. Would like to see a test on them

Re: LB9 head choice

I have to agree that the 081 heads are pretty good for the 305. I would also like to see a comparison with the 059 vortecs. Ive seen some modified 305s make pretty good power with 081s ported with different spring kits etc. Seen em run in the 13s and very street worthy.

The flow numbers are right there with the 350 heads despite having a 1.84 intake valve and the smaller chamber keeps the compression higher on a 305. The 305 marine engines with their tiny 196/206 @ .050 cams made 250 HP and 302 TQ. They breathe well on a 305 and make great power numbers with modest cams.

Re: LB9 head choice

I port them out a little and put 1.94 valves in, gasket match and a good set of springs and you are good to go. you don't want to go too big with a tpi setup. I am using a lt4 hotcam with 1.5 rockers and it runs hard. if you don't want the 081 heads take them all apart and send me the bare heads.
