EGR and it's solenoid..?
Trying to get this car going and realized I don't have an EGR solenoid and understand they aren't made anymore. I do not intend to install the AIR system when I put it all back together.
If I don't reinstall the AIR system will I need the EGR and the solenoid all hooked up or can I just block off the EGR valve?
Thanks!

You will need the solenoid connected or will get a check engine light. You could get PROM burned for it with EGR delete and other parameters diasabled or changed There is a gentleman on this forum that does that work. Seems to get good reviews I believe he goes by " Tuned Performance" I think they may be available after market but do not quote me.

OK, so it will not effect the performance of the engine, just give me the check engine light? My first goal is to get it running then I can smooth out all the bumps..

Re: EGR and it's solenoid..?
I may cause running issues. The calibration is expecting inert exhaust gas to be added to the mix, with the egr doing nothing the chambers aren't getting that inert gas. I don't know how significant it will be with your car but my SD tpi wasn't happy at freeway cruises with the egr solenoid failing.

Re: EGR and it's solenoid..?
If you look around there's a thread on this site about a certain cadillacs egr solenoid working for our cars. I would look into it and try to track one down or find a thirdgen at a junkyard before getting the tune to remove code 32 and putting a block off plate on.
My car ran horribly when the EGR went. I would be hesitant to remove it permanently.
Edit: I believe the Cadillac with the similar egr solenoid is a 1994 Cadillac Deville 4.9l 8cyl.

Re: EGR and it's solenoid..?
If you do switch to a Caddilac solenoid you will have to make a connector or splice the correct plug into the harness. It changes from a weather pack connector to a metripack connector.

I tried looking for the right connector but couldn't find a part number, would be good info to have one in this thread for anyone else wanting to switch to the Cadillac solenoid

Re: EGR and it's solenoid..?
I was able to use an egr solenoid from an LT1. They still make those. If nothing else see if you can find one at a junk yard.

Re: EGR and it's solenoid..?
The connectors and such had a write up a long time ago.
