Getting back into it...

Hi everyone. After many years away from my 89 Iroc, I finally have it in my garage. In high school, I did alot of mods to the motor and elsewhere but never really got it tuned properly. The summer before I went off to college, the tranny went. Although I got the tranny fixed, they did a crappy job. The car sat for a LONG TIME, mostly outside. I wanted to put it in the garage, but my old man's firehawk and brothers GTO got the real estate. As a result, the car is a mess and needs to be totally re done.

I finally have it in my own garage now, but have A TON of work to do. Interior is a mess, I have no idea about the status of the motor... or any rot that may have worked it's wat into the car.

I'm thinking I would start w the interior because it is GROSS (atleast ripping it out). I want to do total suspension upgrades as well as I never really did any work to that before.

After all that is done, I was thinking that I would have it repainted (hopefully engine bay as well) and then move on to checking out the motor.

I am on a fairly limited budget so this all may take a while, but I'm determined to get her back into respectable shap.

I'm not sure that this is the best plan of attack and I am overwhelmed just by looking at the car so any input would be appreciated.

Lastly, I already feel like poop for letting the car go so go easy on me.

Car is a 350 w stock lower and has vortex heads, 1.6 rollers, vortex intake, zz9 cam (I think. It's been that long), ported plenum, pulleys, slp runners and headers, cat back Flowmaster American thunder. I'm sure there is more but can't think of the other mods.

Now that I am no longer bound by the massachusetts emissions tests as the car is old enough now, I would love to build a 383 stroker you motor but to be honest, I will need to do a ton of research. I'm basically a rookie again...

Start with getting it running and driving again. Then get the interior in respectable shape. I would deal with cosmetics last as you can easily damage paint working underhood. And lastly, welcome back.

I was thinking I should do the same but the interior is totally disgusting. If I got the thing running, I wouldn't even want to sit in it to drive it.

Wow. Still looks decent.

Clean the snot out of it. Wash, vacuum, wipe down all interior surfaces, etc. That'll give you an idea of what you are going to need to do cosmetically at least.

Get it running. Change oil first..... see how it runs, what oil pressure is like, etc.

Tires dry rotted?

Develop a plan of attack from there.

Looks nice! A good cleaning is probably the best start at least to see what you have to work with. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

U PULL IT-type junkyards will be great for interior. Just find the ones closest to you and check the inventory online, if available. Keep in mind the 4th gen seats are very comfy and a direct bolt in.

I was thinking that 4th gen might be a nice replacement. I have noticed though that the are hard to come by without rips or wear in the lower left side on the drivers seat though.

I will definitely look for junk yards up here with suitable interior pieces. I'd mostly be looking for plastics to replace. However, back when I used to frequent the yards, all the interiors would be a mess because all the glass would be busted out and t tops removed so the weather did a number on the pieces.

Thanks for the input!
