350 TPI HP Bolts on parts available?

Motor is completely stock and the Car is a 1987 IROC Z with 350 TPI.
Just ordered a tuned chip from Custom Chips, now wondering if say a K&N Cold air intake is beneficial or what other simple bolts on work. Wanting to order something up by Monday to recieve it ASAP.
The car has a brand new stock flow exhaust on it so not looking to change it out yet.
Thanks

Use the search feature, you'll find this topic has been hot since this board was established. As with any car, especially one that is 30 years old, proper tune up is key. Fresh fuel filter, cap rotor, plugs wires, check the tps voltage, and change all fluids. This car stock and in good health should go mid 14's. The camaros air box is far better than the firebirds but there are threads on modding it. If you look under your hood at the exhaust manifolds, you are looking the worst thing GM has designed possibly ever. A quality set of headers will be by far the best bang for the buck. Use the search feature, and let years of other peoples struggles lead you to the 13's.

In my opinion, if your not making a trick custom setup. Just buy a quality replacement filter. I like wix brand. If you must go aftermarket buy a dry filter, stay away from oiled filters.

Re: 350 TPI HP Bolts on parts available?

Ran it on my G-tech timer today. 14.55 @ 95.5 mph for the 1/4 mile. Going to look into a header and I changed plugs, wires, rotor cap, fuel pump.
I will look into the TPS but car is running fine.
Thanks

Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

No I do not. Is there a benefit to running one?

For what you're doing, no. If you had one, and put the car on a dyno, and fine tuned back and forth, run after run, you could probably wring out a few ponies. It's a tuning tool, not a performance part. Once you really dig into the engine, have lots of mods and advanced custom tuning gets involved, those tiny little differences, and the ability to tune DO make a difference.

....but if you haven't even considered doing exhaust yet.....don't waste the effort.

Re: 350 TPI HP Bolts on parts available?

Thanks for the tip. I have no problem doing an Exhaust. I have been researching a lot and seems they all need modifications like moving the engine, different engine mounts, different plug for one cylinder, longer plug wires.
Any idea which Header and Y-Pipe gives the least grief?

That doesn't sound right. Maybe plug wires, just because of how you may route the wires. ..and while I certainly can't know all head/plug/header combos, with stock heads, most plugs should be fine. I know Autolite and NGK both make pretty short plugs. ...as for what headers would I get? I'd probably Check out Top Down Solutions (one of our sponsors) and look at Dyno Don's headers. After that, I think Hooker made some good ones. I have SLP, but they're discontinued. Been sooooo long since I researched headers. Tons of info out there.

Re: 350 TPI HP Bolts on parts available?

i can tell you that there are plenty of parts that are available and bolt ons for these cars. it depends how much money and time you want to spend on these motors. i probably would have gotten more power for less time and money with an LS swap, but im not comfortable with doing that kind of modding. you can look at my sig for my upgrades to the motor. IMO....start with headers and intake runners. its my feeling these motors cant get enough air through so they choke up. good luck
