I had an unsuccessful attempt a while back trying to change out the fuel injectors in my 85 with Bosch III's. Horrible hard start issues, among other things. There has got to be an injector that the 85 cars like. My stock injectors all work, but Im sure they could use replacing.

For those that arent familiar, the 85 does not use the faulty Multec injectors like the later cars do.

Im sure someone with an 85 has installed new injectors and had happy results. Id like to hear some first hand experience from you.

 

What kind are the original?
Good to know on the Bosch III's. My 85 TPI runs fantastic on its originals. But it only has 57k miles.

 

Ive read they are Bosch brand. Not sure on specifics. The body is all black. No markings on them from what I can see. Mine have 113k on them. Like I said the car runs good, but it could only help with new ones...

 

When the coils on three of my Multecs went **** up on my black hardtop at around 8 or 9K miles, I ordered a new set of flow matched Bosch 2s from TPIS to replace them.

Now that I want to replace the Accel/Lucas 24 pounders in my '89 'vert, I called TPIS and they no longer offer them, nor are they available new. I ordered these rebuilt 19# Bosch 2s from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/162129315389?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITSomeone I know just put them in their 16,000 mile '90 IROC, after a couple of the original Multecs failed.

After watching it, I'm even more inclined to replace the brand new Accel injectors that are in the car now.

The other thing....

There is no freaking way I'm putting a yellow or pink injector in my car....

I guess my question would be why did the 85 not like the Bosch 3's 19# and what is different about the 8 in the ebay link that the car will like? The injectors in the ad at least look like what is stock in my car now, so thats promising, however I dont see 19# listed anywhere, unless I missed it...

 

It's not listed, but I asked him if they were 19# to verify.

As far as why you had trouble with the type 3s, I have no clue.

 

That guy sells the same injectors for 305 cars and 350 cars. Only why to tell if it's a 19 or 22lb injector will be by the Bosch part number on the injector itself.

 

I'll have to check them when they come in, Brian. The part numbers of the ones pictured ID's them as 19#......I think.

BTW, the injectors are # 280150973. When I do a search they appear to be 19# injectors.

If anyone has anything to add, I'm all ears.

 

That part number is for a 19lb injector.
