max compression on 93 octane
max compression on 93 octane
I have an 88 iroc z Camaro. It has the 350 tpi engine. I plan on rebuilding this engine with crane 2032 cam, summit racing 62cc aluminum heads, and first tpi intake. I plan on putting 4 valve relief hyper flat top pistons. What is the max compression i can have and still run premium fuel and be safe?

I am not familiar with that camshaft but I'm at 11.34 to 1 and I run premium with out spark knock but have to pull some timing out. 10 to 1 is a good bench mark from what I have been told.

I'd shoot for 10-10.2:1 max. Low rpm plus smallish cam, high dynamic cmpression, i would like 10:1. Sneak up on tune, watch the 3000-3600 rpm range. Probably only want 30-32 deg timing there if heads are decent chambers, and 34-36 overall at 4400

Re: max compression on 93 octane
Calculate your DCR. 8.0-8.5 to 1 is the sweet spot. Heat will be the most significant factor regarding detonation.

Re: max compression on 93 octane
I have run 11:1 no problem with a big camshaft. Bigger cam bleeds off compression. It will crank less. Small cam would have alot higher cranking pressures
