Rattle under left rear of engine

I'm getting a rattle and it sounds like it's coming from the driver side rear of the engine. Could it be a loose rocker arm? If so what are the torque specs for the rocker?

Could be a collapsed lifter. Here's how to asdjust valve lash.

Re: Rattle under left rear of engine

Is it internal or external? Could be a loose converter bolt? If adjusting the valves shows no difference you might look there next.

Re: Rattle under left rear of engine

I just replaced the converters to magnaflows. It only does it mid rev range not at low or high rpm and if I'm at part throttle. Drove it today about 100 miles and if your foots in it no rattle. Cruising on the hwy at 70-80 in fifth gear no rattle and it pulls real strong no need to down shift.

Re: Rattle under left rear of engine

Could be the Air tubes for the converters or the heat shields. I used a band clamp on my air tubes to solve the rattle.

I'll check the heat shield and tubes.

I went to the shop that did my exhaust work and they went through the car and told me they suspect its a stuck lifter. The tech told me to drive it for a few hundred miles since it was sitting for 4 years and it might free up. If it doesn't at that point to take it in and see what needs to be replaced at that point.

Re: Rattle under left rear of engine

In lieu of MMO, a fresh change of Mobil1 10W30 and clean filter might free up some sludge and varnish once it is warm. Just keep the RPMs down until the problem is resolved, since there is little sense in beating up the valve train unnecessarily.
