Been reading through all the MAF discussions and see 85, 87 & 88 and 89 could use different version. Which one if you had an 89 TPI L98 engine would you buy if you could only buy one? I have purchased 2 and the 189.00 Orielly one ran terrible black smoke you name it. The cheap 85 dollar one almost works but has code 33.

I know there are many discussions about this even for vettes.

I am about ready to carb the thing....

The 85 is digital and won’t work properly iirc.
It’s very odd you have a maf high error with 5gps at idle.
Vader would be the go to guy to ask which maf to get.
I would look in the classifieds for someone parting out a 86-89 and get a used Bosch unit.
There are a few different part numbers but as far as I know the function the same.

 

The code 33 maf threashold can be changed in the tune . With low Maf at idle it’s hard to believe your hitting the 1/4 Throttle threashold.

So far with the new chip and ECM its cleared. Also replaced the MAF relays. I put about 30 minutes on the engine and no codes yet.
