All I want to do is put stock valve covers back on
The AIR pump junk has to be taken apart and moved out of the way? There's almost no room over there.

On the passenger's side? Yes. Usually I drain the radiator, and disconnect the heater valve from the throttleody. Then either pop the cover off the AIR valve, and remove the two bolts that mount it to the hard pipe, or you can remove the pipe from the back of the smog pump. Removing the coil and bracket sometimes helps too.

I would like to, but the state requires visual inspection no matter the age of the car. So any inspector that cared would flunk it.
My truck even flunked because the inspector said it was missing the little riser tube that goes from the manifold to the round metal air box, back when it was still TBI. He made me go to oreillys and pick up a 3 dollar part and put it on. I think it eventually just fell off when I was driving.
