Stealth ram on 305?

Is there much benefit to putting a stealth ram on a 305? I have the opportunity to buy one complete with fuel rails at what I feel is a really good price. I know everyone will say put a 350 in but this is my sons first car (he’s only 16) and I’d like to keep the 305 in the car for at least a year or 2 since it only has 91000 miles on it and he will be kinda limited on how much power the engine will put out. Don’t want him to have to much power to soon! Lol

I'm sure. Just like headers, cam, whatever helps a 5.7 helps a 5.0 as well. Should make it breathe over 4500 rpm. I'm pretty sure it will need a bit of tuning after after the stealth ram and it won't look as "cool" in my opinion. But I grew up thinking TPI was the coolest thing under a hood id ever seen. Honestly I probably still do.

I agree, they are definitely unique. I’ll probably go ahead and get it but wait and put it on after he gets a little more drive time under his belt.

I really do not see a Stealthram helping a 305 much and more likely would slow down an otherwise stock car.

I have also not noticed the 4,500 rpm rumored choke point of TPI. My TPI 350 in my 1983 G20 van with Vortec heads and a mild roller cam was still pulling strong at the 6,200 rpm fuel kill. It pulled noticeably harder from 4,500-6,200 with siamessed SLP runners but it still ran strong even with the stock runners. I am working on an 87 Firebird in the shop that has a 10:1 355 with Dart 180 heads and a Hotcam. It pulls HARD to the 6,200 rpm fuel kill as well. The 87 Firebird pulled 290 rwhp @ 5,400/360 rwtq @ 3,600 through a 3,000 rpm stalled TH400.

I havent seen a tpi pull that high unless it was highly siamesed. Did you dyno that combo? The graph would show it flatten out and drop off by 4500-5000 in most combos. Only ones i havent seen fall off were procharger ones with boost rising to 6000 lol
Last big tube runner afr180 head hotcam car i did was done by 5000.

I agree i dont see the hsr helping a stock 305. It would trade off alot of torque for very minor increase in hp at upper rpm and may extend shift point some.

Search for it, but one member did a hsr swap on a peanut cammed 305 and shared results. Dyno’d something like 195 whp with a t5. Def changed power curve shape and he seemed to like it from what i remember but dont quote me lol

Re: Stealth ram on 305?

I think it was Zepher(spelling) who did the HSR on a 305. Without a cam and heads I dont think it would be worth it.

Re: Stealth ram on 305?

I’ve been doing some port and polish work on some aluminum 113 heads we are going to install with the hsr and maybe a lt1 cam all at one time. I probably should have thrown that in there will my original post.

I want the dyno chart to believe this... this in counter to every magazine, engine builder, and common knowledge of TPI. Hell and LT1/4 LS1,2,3 all fall off before 6K.
