Stealth Ram vs. Super Ram vs. Mini Ram

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone's opinions are on the Holley Stealth Ram, Accel Mini Ram and the TPIs Mini Ram. What are your experiences with it? I assume that the Stealth Ram adds the most power?

Which one would you recommend for my car. First off I prefer to keep my car legal. I have an 88 Camaro 350 TPI. Pretty much stock engine wise. I made a couple of changes but nothing that adds power. So basically I am looking at 1 of the 3 products above or any other one you guys may recommend. I do not really want to change the hood or cut it or bend it, unless there is a huge difference of power between the Stealth Ram and the other two?

What are basically the HP gains from stock after installing each one. I heard that the Holley Stealth Ram may be illegal? I have to pass emissions every two years now with new Ontario laws. Would I be able to pass it with the Holley Stealth Ram?

Also I only have about 40000 miles on my car and it runs great, so I do not want to add anything that may potentially hurt the engine. So I may not want to rip out the TPI.

So basically wondering what would be the best way to add HP, best deal (bang for $) and what is the best to make it legal.

Sorry for so many questions, but I am not that mechanically inclined.

Thank you for your responses in advance.

Be prepared to get flamed, this stuff has been covered ad-nauseum. First rule of the board is search before posting, and people will call you out for not doing so.

I'd answer your questions but I don't have experience with those intakes, sorry.

I would go Stealth ram..... and I am pretty sure that you do not need to cut the hood.... go to stealthram.com they talk about how much you gain and probably answer all of you questions....

Re: Stealth Ram vs. Super Ram vs. Mini Ram

yes a search would be great

but only 1 of those intakes are "smog" legal and thats the superam. its generally good to 5500rpms or so. for a stock car it would be a nice choice for a bolt on and you'll see lots of power with it. for a nice heads/cammed car, it will still work but depends on how big on the cam you go.

HSR (holley stealth ram) and miniram do not have provisions for EGR, nor anyway that i know of that you can fabricate a working setup for. however they will generally make the most power out of those 3 intakes mentioned. minram will even pull to higher rpms than the HSR because of its shorter runners, but you will need compression/cam/heads, and/or cubic inches to support that intake to use its full potential. its expensive at 1200 bucks or so.

HSR is nice since its fairly cheap...good bang for the buck. can make power up over 6000rpms in the right combo. good enough for 400whp i hear naturally aspirated. minor hood clearance MAY be necessary but its not major problem. On my hood there was a little bracing bump that i had to cut off but it wasnt a big problem

Depends on your emissions laws, there is a chance that you can pass emissions testing without EGR with a good tune on the motor. stock motor should be fine without EGR. but if you have any visual inspections, and they can see you have no EGR with the HSR or miniram, then you probly wont pass.

for a stock motor, stock cam/heads etc, ANY of those intakes would prove huge gains over stock TPI. My HSR car went 12.95 so far while TPI i only got to 13.63. Maybe my TPI car had more in it, but thats the best i could do with it and no tuning which would have helped i'm sure. I'm sure a superram or miniram would have made the same or near same power levels and ran similar times.

Re: Stealth Ram vs. Super Ram vs. Mini Ram

For legal here in Ontario sofar your stuck with the SupperRam out of that 3, we need the EGR here in Ontario or you get a $380 fine if the MTO ever takes a peak.

Other legal options would be the FIRST Injection set-up or that new BBK set-up if it ever does come out.

I currently have the HSR on my own car but since the Police/MTO started using my work parking lot for there blitz's, I will be switching over to the FIRST system so I can actualy drive my car to work again without fear of getting nailed.

My friend is putting on a MiniRam and they plan to hook up an EGR externaly simular to how the Corvettes run. I didnt feel like drilling into my HSR so I'll just switch over.

As for the diference between the 3 you listed, Orr89RocZ has it pretty much covered.

Re: Stealth Ram vs. Super Ram vs. Mini Ram

Just a note I thought I'd throw in. I'm running the SuperRam with the EGR. However, there is no way of actually seeing the EGR in there without taking off the lid and plenum. Even with my bolt down from the top + cotter pin setup, that's a nuisance. I doubt an emissions person would actually go to the trouble of taking off my SuperRam to check for an EGR.

I love the SuperRam. But having said that, the MiniRam and StealthRam are a heck of a lot easier to install.

Oh they chk for sure, too many of my friends have already gotten the ticket, they are really cracking down on modified car's here now. Its $380 per infraction, so if your missing yor AIR thats another $380, missing your canister, another $380, your cat, another $380, starts to add up after awile, eh Friend of mine had his plates pulled because his Ebrake wasnt strong enuff.

Some people have been getting away with it and have never gotten pulled into a blitz, others have got nailed when they came out of the resterrant from dinner. My friend Dave got nailed almost $1200 in his mothers lainway wile visiting her, yes they can nail you on private property even, if its legaly plated they can inspect the vehical at anytime.

We got some of the worst laws in North America now and there really cracking down, get caught speeding 50kmh over (remember 100kmh is only 60mph), car impounded for min 1 week, loss of licence for min 1 week, $2000 min fine. Get cought street racing, your better off being a serial killer

Re: Stealth Ram vs. Super Ram vs. Mini Ram

Unless your adding a cam and plan on more changes...why do you want a different intake? You'd gain very little on a stock engine.
