Car running too cold

91 GTA 5.0 TPI doesn't get warm according to her guage... I replaced the thermostat and cooling sensor a couple years ago. The car is idling a little high bc of this as the computer seems to be giving the car more fuel.

any ideas? maybe the thermostat is stuck open?

Re: Car running too cold

Have you attempted to measure the temperature externally, via an infrared thermometer or even by hand (don't burn yourself though)?

Could be the temp gauge sender, too.

How long are you running it, I know mine takes what seems like a long time to get to operating temp.

Re: Car running too cold

When I first got my 88 IROC Z it was drinking gas, would not warm up. Would only warm up a little if I sat at a stop light. Thermostat was stuck wide open.

Re: Car running too cold

I got a smell of gas around my car with no visible leaking... the car doesn't warm up at all, no matter how long I lets her warm up.

Re: Car running too cold

Best way to see what the engine is seeing is to connect a reader. Run to a parts store and have them plug in and check the reader to the gauge,

Re: Car running too cold

Do you get coolant flow cold ?
You can remove the radiator cap and watch flow.

Re: Car running too cold

If the cooling is flowing when the engine is first started up I would think the thermostat is stuck open.
