1991 l98 valve adjustment
Hey guys i adjusted my rocker arms on the stock valve train with the engine running method. A lot of guys swear by the 1/2 turn after 0 lash is achieved, but the engine is sluggish now. I looked up the procedure in my service manual and it said go 1 turn. How come some people get away with 1/2 turn?

Your valves seem to be too tight, be careful to not bend or break a pushrod.
I run the nuts down until the nut hits the fulcrum then turn 6 revolutions. At this point the engine can be fired up.. go to each rocker and loosn until it starts a clacking sound then tighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
My buddy that has since retired as a Chevy tech showed me this method and I have had an easy time with MANY builds.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see how they're too tight though. I backed off until I heard the clacking, slowly eased back unail clacking just stopped, then went 1/2.

I'll post what I find for the next guy that may have the same problem. I'm thinking more along the lines of floating valves not opening properly due to inadequate preload. I'll let you guys know!! Hopefully I can get out there tomorrow and turn some wrenches

Ok so I went by my factory service manual despite everyone saying otherwise. The stock l98 tpi calls for 1 turn after 0 valve lash has been achieved. I did that and it works great. Just wanted to follow up. Thanks!!
