Engine pinging TPI

I have a 350 Vortec stock with TPI speed density. Small cap dizzy with external coil
I have set base timing to 5 deg and under light throttle it pings slightly
When I floor it no ping
If I back the timing off to 2 deg it still gets slight ping
Any thought would be great it is doing my head in

Re: Engine pinging TPI

Have you tried your hand at ecm tuning ?
you might have to recurve your timing or add more fueling.
afpr ?

Re: Engine pinging TPI

I have not. I have had trouble reading data via the adl port and have only had limited sucess. The problem of pinging seems to have got worse over time. What is involved with reprogramming the ecu?

Re: Engine pinging TPI

What are you using to connect to your ecm ?
Tuner pro rt ?
To reprogram your fueling and timing tables you need to use tuner pro or tuner cat $8d mask.
You also need a burner and adapter look into moates.net g1 and burn 2.
There is a tuning guide in the diy prom section stickies to help you get started in the process.Another option would be
dynamic efi makes a great ecm add on board for your ecm. He has several starter tunes and one for vortec heads that might be a good fit.no chip swapping with the ebl flash.

Re: Engine pinging TPI

Dynamic efi looks like the way to go for me I think. I've just emailed them some questions. I think that is the seasiest way to go and most effective long term. Thankyou very much for your input
