Calling all 85-87 guys doing LT1 intake swap

I don't know if you guys have noticed this, but our alternator bracket connects to the passenger side runner. Has anyone already finished the swap? If so how did you get around this little bracket problem?

as for the alternator bracket, you may be able to modif it to work or you could get a MARCH alternator bracket setup from Summit Racing

i am considering this swap also an would be interested i some answers , like how the MAF worked out etc. etc.

Just use an aftermarket alt bracket that only bolts to the water pump. I think they can be had for $20 at summit, or my gasket, or trans dapt, etc.

I don't have a great picture of it, buy you can sorta see it in this picture:

MAF works fine, everything bolts up and even the 93 LT1s used a MAF. So it nothing out of the ordinary. The March stuff looks nice, until i saw the price. If I had $100 to kick around for a bracket I would have bought a miniram I'm going to try and mod the bracket. It will be significantly less structurally sound and strong as before, but I think it just might hold up if I dremel the hell out of it. Does anyone think it can be relocated, like were the A/C or AIR pump used to be?

Yeah I see the bracket, thats basically what I just made an hour ago with a hacksaw. But now theres another problem It still needs some major clearencing for the Throttle Body since the intake sits so damn low. Well, It good to at least see that it'll work fine without the runner bolt. Is there anyone out there who has completed this swap with the 85-87 setup?

The bracket problem is solved!!!! I pretty much just hacked the hell out of the stocker. The picture I'm attaching is just part of my work. You'll notice that a portion of the bracket still hits the Throttle body boot. Well thats all gone too. I hope it holds.

That TB does sit low on the V-belt setup. I would have never imagined. I had some issues with mine clearing the serpentine brackets but they were minor.

Camaro6spd is right. I got my history mixed up.... lol. The 93 was SD and then GM realized their mistakes and went back to MAF . The only reason it sucks on 3rd gens is the 8-bit computer, not the MAF itself.

As an alternative, you can get an adjustable rod from March Performance. They are $20 bucks or so. IT is a rod with rod ends, that expands and contracts like a turnbuckle. The real advantage for you is that the rod is straight and thin. It would bolt to the back of the alt mount, rather than the front as it does now.

Something to think about.

Here is the final shot of the bracket, as 85-87 guys can see it barely resembles the original bracket. It holds pretty good right now so I hope it will last in the long run. But if it doesn't that bar thing seems to be the only other reasonable alternative. Thanks for the info.

You might scrounge up an extra bracket from a junk yard or something, modify it like you have, but then weld some steel rod/bar to it to give it some strength. The swap out the new one when you get a chance. Just an idea..

The way everything is setup and curved theres pretty much no way that I can put any brace or support on it without it hitting somthing. This bracket is actually pretty strong even though it looks flimsy (gotta love iron).

I was wondering about this issue myself but I figured I would just cut the bracket up until it worked..... Looks like I have an example to work with now .
