I will take a large order of torque with a side order of HP

I personally could give a hairy flying rats *** about HP, I want my motor to have torque. What mods would give more torque results on a 86 TPi car? Are large tube runners more torque giving than longer length runners? what other mods are cheap torque givers, cheap under $500 or so

Ok, most of this has been gone over before, I'll try and give a synopsis.
Free Mods
Port Plenum
Open up MAF
Open up intake tract (firebirds and camaro's are different but both can benefit)
Bump the initial timing a couple of degrees.
hollow out cat
throttle body coolant bypass
lower temp thermostat (not quite free but less than $10)

Mods less than 500 bucks.
Headers
cat back exhaust (or duals if emissions are not an issue.
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Throttle body airflow
underdrive pulleys
1.6 rockers
Ignition boxes are debatable, I saw in a recent 4 wheel magazine where they tested 4 boxes against a just a distributor and wire upgrade and all the tests were within less than 1% of each other.
Having said that I LOVE my Jacobs Pro street unit, and really did notice a difference with it, hard to beat 65K volts at the plugs.

I'd also go with a higher stall converter, but that can easily be more than 500 bucks, especially if you don't do your own install.
Any porting work you can do yourself will help if you're careful, the tools arent' that expensive. You didn't say what size your v8 was, but if it's a 350 or larger try out Madmax's post's on siamesing your intake. The edelbrock base is also less than 500 bucks, much cheaper than the ACCEl or TPIS units. LTR runners will also help out for less than 500 bucks.

Don't bother buying the TPIS insider hints, you can find all that information and more here on this site.
Good Luck.
John

Thanks for the info, I konw these is a much asked question, but I have a 305 CID motor and i have 1500 miles on it so I dont want to buy a 350 or get its gas milage. I just want/ //rice stomping torque, dont care about top end just want /low end grunt. So I guess headers are good to torque, any other torque adders you/ g/uys can think of I would apreciate. aslo woudl a fuel pressu/re regulater k/i/ll m/y milage?/

Torque and HP go hand it hand. You'll gain both with most any mods. Right now.. you have a TPI setup which is excellent for getting torque. All you have to do now is add the basics, heads, cam, exhaust and so forth and you'll have the complete package.

If you want torque so badly, just remember it comes with displacement hence the reason no ricers have it. Bigger the engine, more TQ that can be made. The TPI unit helps make alot of torque despite the cubes.
