Injector/ECU question(s)

Almost done building my engine, and down the road when I add my turbos and stuff, I'm hoping to get around 570 crank for 500 wheel. Yes this is TPI, yes I know it's stupid, I don't care. I'm guessing I'm going to need around 60lb injectors, that seem right? That being said, will the stock ECU be able to handle that large of an injector? Thinking about buying the Moates Ostrich 2.0 but don't want to spend the money if I should just get a new ECU like a Megasquirt or something.

Re: Injector/ECU question(s)

You'll need somewhere between 600 and 650 crank to get to 500 wheel.

A typical stock 350 block generally isn't considered good to that power level. Mostly the main journal web isn't strong enough.

Stock ECU doesn't handle boost and if it's a MAF car it's blind above about 255 wheel. Megasquirt isn't a great option - outdated serial junk.

You'll need management and a lot more than injectors. Big fuel pump for one.

Re: Injector/ECU question(s)

So the MAF just stops reading correctly above 255?

The max airflow value is 255 grams/sec. That's about 255 rear wheel horsepower. It's actually frighteningly close to dyno numbers. That's about 300 crank HP. Once the MAF goes blind, you have to rely on power enrichment mode beyond that. It can be done but it's certainly not idea. The MAF grams/sec value is an 8 bit value in the firmware and is maxed at 255. Not much can be done about it unless you want to re-write the firmware. BlowerWorks did it but the cost is kinda high..... their files are floating around out there also. But still, a modern management system is peanuts compared to building engines and having them blow up because of management that's too primitive.

Re: Injector/ECU question(s)

Can the MAF read anything higher and is just limited to the 8 bit number or does the sensor max out too?

The stock sensor is maxed out as well. It's not possible to put it in a larger housing since it's really an integrated unit with the sensor being molded right into the housing.
