Simple Firebird SD TPI cold air mod

As I was working on converting my single fan to dual fan, I noticed something. When I pulled out the OE air box (cylinder?) it was obvious that this thing is pulling in under-hood air through that big hole. What made this obvious was the small chunks of hood insulation stuck to the air cleaner element. As I already had the air box out, I thought if there was some way to port ambient air to that big hole, it should be beneficial. I had the old air duct from before I converted to TPI and, low and behold, it fits perfectly in the big hole in the air box! This could then bend around the charcoal canister and suck from the fender well. I had to slightly relocate the canister to free up enough space to run the duct. Not sure if this will make that much difference, but I think it's worth a shot.

Did something similar to this back in the 90’s on my ‘88, so for others it will work on the MAF cars with this canister also. As to how much it helps, I’m with you there. However getting the pickup point closer to the cooler air surely isn’t going to hurt!
